Filet Crochet how do I....

where do I begin?  I would like to crochet in thread an Eagle's head 8" round.  I have no idea where to begin with this, and am looking for reference materials or pattern. I've never done filet crochet before, and I suppose I can do it, knowing basic crochet stitches. Can I take a design I like and make it smaller?

I really like this one. I have not done much filet crochet so I wouldn't be the one to advise you about anything to do with it! It seems like it would be easy, but tedious. Don't know about changing the size either.

I came here to tell you something I thought of this morning with that piece you have with the blue edging. It might be easiest and look best if you take out all that blue edging and then just make an edging with any Size 20 blue thread (or any color) you can find that matches well. That way you don't have to match the color, size, and stitching exactly. If it's really old, it might be faded and impossible to match anyway. Just a thought!

It is a good thought, I hadn't thought of it. Today I found zilch, zero nada today, so it is a good option. Thank you for the thought
friend. :)
